State Government opens channels for International deposits to help victims of the massive flooding in southern Brazil

The State government, through Banco do Estado do Rio Grande do Sul, made banking channels available for international deposits to assist the flood victims in southern Brazil. There are more than 400 municipalities affected in the State of Rio Grande do Sul (the southernmost state of Brazil). Heavy rains have affected 1 million people so far. There are more than 100 confirmed deaths.

The scale of the devastation has motivated a solidarity network to send donations to Rio Grande do Sul to help the victims in the next stages of reconstruction.

Cash contributions can be made by individuals and legal entities through Banrisul partner institutions. The management and supervision of the resources are under the responsibility of a Management Committee, composed of representatives from government bodies and social entities and is chaired by the State Civil House. This alternative for donations was reactivated, since it has already helped in September 2023 the victims of another climate catastrophe in southern Brazil, which occurred in the Taquari River Valley. The resources will be fully used for humanitarian support for the flooding victims and for the reconstruction of the municipalities’ infrastructure.
